Shirley Ann Lassiter Wilkins

Shirley was born in Miami, Florida, to the late Grady and Flora Bell Lassiter. She graduated from Miami Central High School in 1966 and lived in Miami until 1986, when she and her family relocated to Georgia.

On January 4, 1967, Shirley married the love of her life, Terrell “Terry” A. Wilkins, in Miami, Florida. She was a devoted and supportive military wife throughout Terry’s 41-year long career of service in the Army National Guard and Army Reserve. Through the years, Shirley was a steadfast source of love, encouragement, and strength for her family.

Shirley was a loving and devoted mother to her two sons, Donald and Daniel. She spent countless years supporting and cheering them on through their many sporting activities and adventures. Her family was always at the center of her life, and she took great pride in watching her sons grow up and go on to build lives of their own.

In 2006, Shirley’s life was filled with a new joy when she became a grandmother to Kendall Wilkins, daughter of Daniel. Proudly embracing her new role as “Mimi,” she treasured every moment of grandmotherhood. Kendall brought a special happiness into her life, and Shirley cherished the bond they shared.

Shirley is survived by her son, Don Wilkins (Becky) of Tucker, Georgia; granddaughter, Kendall Wilkins of Dacula, Georgia; and sister, Patty Hudson of Zephyrhills, Florida. She also leaves behind many cherished memories with extended family and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Terrell “Terry” A. Wilkins; her son, Daniel “Dan” A. Wilkins; her sister, Sandra Frix; and best friend, Lauren “Lin” O’Steen.

A graveside service will be held on a future date at Friendship Cemetery in Hahira, Georgia.

Advantage Cremation Services of Lilburn, Georgia, and Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home of Adel, Georgia, are assisting the family with arrangements.

Shirley will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her strength and support as a military wife, and the love she gave so freely as a mother, sister, and “Mimi.”

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
