With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Sonja Jean Borom (née Harper) of Kissimmee, Florida. Sonja transitioned peacefully on July 5, 2025, just days before her 81st birthday. She was born on July 10, 1944, in Joliet, Illinois, and was lovingly raised in Lockport, where the foundations of her strength, grace, and compassion were laid.
Sonja led a life of service and integrity, retiring after a proud career as a Revenue Officer with the Internal Revenue Service. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she was known for her vibrant spirit, her warm heart, and her unwavering devotion to faith and family.
She was a faithful member of Parkview Life Center, where she served joyfully as an usher. Whether she was quilting, spending time with loved ones, or sharing a laugh with friends, Sonja brought light and love to every space she entered.
She is now reunited in peace with those who went before her: her beloved husband Henry Borom, Sr., her parents Lee Ester and Isaiah Harper, and her brother Thedford Harper.
Sonja’s legacy lives on through those she cherished most: her sisters LaRose Edwards and Mildred Breyer; her brother Isaiah Harper; her nephew Jonathan Hill; and her nieces Jasmine Hill and Alexis Hill. Her presence, wisdom, and gentle strength will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
A celebration of Sonja’s life will be held during a Home Going Service on:
Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM
Bethesda Christian Ministries
2950 Bayard Street, Atlanta, GA 30344
A repast will follow immediately after the service, as family and friends gather to honor her memory and share stories of her beautiful life.
Flowers in Sonja’s honor may be sent to:

"A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life."
— Proverbs 31:10–12
Sonja lived with faith, loved with all her heart, and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and joy. We are forever grateful for the time we shared with her.
