Tom was born and raised in Lavonia, Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia before establishing his career as a painting contractor. He was a proud owner of his own company, Grove Decorating. Tom worked as a successful real estate agent for many years. He took pride in his work, and he enjoyed helping others find and create a home. Using his unique sense of color and tones, Tom was a perfectionist at color creation for his clients, friends, and family.
Having a deep desire to create a healthy and safe community, Tom stayed active in numerous political, Christian, and civic organizations. Tom was a member of First Baptist Church of Lilburn since moving to Lilburn in 1971. He belonged to the Lilburn Lions Club, and he was a Gideon. His family and friends were extremely proud to see Tom serve the state of Georgia as a member of the House of Representatives.
Tom enjoyed nature and being outdoors. The mountains and streams called to him. He liked to collect river rocks and to go out with a pole to fish on a quiet stream. Tom also enjoyed cooking and growing vegetables in his garden, which he shared with his many friends and family.
Tom was known for his sense of humor, loving smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He never met a stranger that didn’t become a friend. Without a doubt, it was his personality that drew others to him.
Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Otis White, and his mother, Ella Mae Mauldin. He is survived by his wife Fran, his two children, Jennifer White and Annette Chartters, and son-in-law Stephen Chartters. He was most proud of his five grandchildren, Mary and Andrew Langford, and Matthew, Daniel, and Jacob Chartters.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 15th, 2021 in the chapel at the Advantages Funeral Home at 1 o’clock p.m. Visitation is available from 11 o’clock a.m. until 1 o’clock p.m. Thomas H. White will be buried at the First Baptist Church of Lilburn.
