William Harry Wood

His Celebration of Life service will be held on June 28, 2016 at 10:00am at County Line United Methodist Church in Acworth, Georgia, with Rev. Jane Nugent and Rev. Dr. Scott Pickering officiating. Military services will be held at 2:30pm at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.

Mr. Wood was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina on July 10, 1935. After serving in the Air Force, he worked at IBM until his retirement. He enjoyed his time refereeing soccer until 70 years of age and also participating in many mission trips with County Line United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 294 in Powder Springs and was also a member of the United Methodist Men at County Line United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Peck & Odessa Burgess and Ed & Clara Wood. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Dean Wood; granddaughter of the home Kendra Hamby; his son Arno and his wife Danielle Wood; his daughter Trina and her husband Steve Sliger; his son Jody Wood and his girlfriend Laura Webb; his grandchildren Lily Sliger, Stevie Sliger, Hugh Sliger and Jenna Frey; his sisters Lorene (Puddin’) Stepp and Peggy Lyda both of Hendersonville, North Carolina; his brothers Walter E. Wood and Kenneth Burgess both of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Joe Burgess of Greer, South Carolina; and his many nieces and nephews who all loved him and will greatly miss him and his humor.
