In the early morning hours of December 17, 2017, Alfred William Barling, “Freddie”, drifted into eternal peace.
Freddie’s death was proceeded by his mother Greta “Charlie” Goldschmidt, father William Barling, and grandmother Hedwig “Oma” Goldschmidt. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 28 years Caroline Barling. Both have been inseparable since the day they met and it was awesome to watch real true love when they were together. He will be dearly missed by his children and children-in-law including sons Carl Barling and wife Kristin, Eric Devlin and wife Stephanie, Jason Devlin and fiancée Christina Péter. He will never be forgotten by his many daughters including Karen Pedersen and husband Tom, Dawn Franken and husband Paul, Nicole Pease and husband Artie, Lindsey Barling, and Chrissy Upchurch. Freddie’s life included being a grandfather to eight grandsons; Jake Devlin, Jack Sherman, Tyler Devlin, Mark Peterson, Christian Devlin, Carlie Franken, J.R. Franken, and Ryan Barling; as well as eight beautiful granddaughters; Patty Franken, Naomi Franken, Carly Devlin, Emily Barling, Skyler Upchurch, Ellie Pedersen, Jenna Pedersen, and Ella Pease. Finally, just a few months ago Freddie became a great-grandfather to Brixton Novia. He will also be missed greatly by his fur-babies Cody and Lilly.
There are also countless numbers of friends and acquaintances who will miss the man that everyone referred to simply as, Freddie. Those who had the pleasure of crossing paths with Freddie, could not help but to know the loving, kind, gentle soul that he had. The numbers of those people is great because Freddie truly loved everything about people and life, and it could be easily felt through his shining smile and infectious laughter. He loved to talk to and interact with anyone and everyone he could. Weather you knew Fred for all 68 years of his life or just 5 minutes, it was not hard to fall in love with him. He truly cared for every one he met because of his love of life and people. No matter how long or brief your encounter with Freddie was, we will all miss our beloved Husband, Father, Grand-Father, Great Grand-Father, and friend tremendously.
To Freddie, thank you for being who you were and thank you for touching the countless lives in the way you have. The world was a better place with you. “Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.”
