

Almy Marie Cook Rainey, born on January 18, 1968, in Mullens, West Virginia, passed away on July 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and kindness that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.
Marie was the beloved daughter of the late Sydney Ellis Cook and Iris Glea Johnson Cook Morgan. She was raised in Keyrock, West Virginia, where she developed a deep appreciation for nature and the simple joys of life. In June of 1999, she made Little River, South Carolina, her home, where she built a life surrounded by family, friends, and the things she loved most.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Shaun Rainey of Little River, South Carolina; her loving daughter, Heather Cook of Little River, South Carolina; her sons, Thomas Church and Samuel Church, both of Morganton, North Carolina; her brother, Dwight Cook of Pineville, West Virginia; her sister, Drema Morgan (Allan Cline) of Pineville, West Virginia; and her sister, Shirley Cook Vance (Richard Vance) of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edgar Cook; and her sister, Debbie Cook Beckett.
Marie was a proud and loving grandmother to four cherished grandchildren: Tashawna Campbell, Anona Church, Ridley Jackson, and Atticus Church. Being "Granny" brought her immense joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Anyone who knew Marie knew that her happiest moments were spent outdoors. Whether she was tending to her garden, enjoying the sunshine, or simply appreciating the beauty of nature, she found peace in the world around her. Her love for animals was extraordinary. She never hesitated to stop in the middle of the road to rescue a turtle crossing the highway or save a stray kitten in need. To Marie, every life mattered.
Her home and her heart were always open. She welcomed countless children into her life, loving and caring for them as though they were her own. Her compassion knew no limits, and her kindness touched the lives of so many. She had a heart of gold, a contagious laugh that could brighten anyone's day, and a spirit that made everyone feel seen, loved, and accepted.
Marie's legacy is not measured by material things, but by the countless lives she touched through her generosity, selflessness, and unconditional love. She leaves behind beautiful memories that her family and friends will carry with them forever.
Though she may no longer walk beside us, her love will continue to bloom in every flower, shine through every sunrise, and live on in every act of kindness inspired by her remarkable
