Archer Ward Grayson Jr.

Ward was born on February 5, 1937, in Christiansburg, Virginia, to the late Archer Ward Grayson, Sr. and Texie Wingfield Reynolds Grayson. He grew up in Christiansburg and graduated from Christiansburg High School before continuing his education at the Medical College of Virginia, where he pursued his career in pharmacy.

Ward began his career as a pharmacist in Independence, Virginia, before returning to his hometown, where he spent many years serving the Christiansburg community at the downtown Scottie’s Pharmacy. Throughout his life and career, Ward was known for his kindness, gentle spirit, and genuine care for others.

After retirement, Ward and his beloved wife, Gay Conner Grayson, made their home in Little River, South Carolina. Above all else, Ward loved God, his wife, and his family. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he faithfully served others as a member of Living Water Baptist Church in Longs, South Carolina.

Ward had a servant’s heart and shared his faith through many ministries and acts of service. He was involved with Gideons International, local jail ministry, homeless ministry, and led home Bible studies. He touched countless lives through his willingness to serve and his desire to share God’s love with others.

Ward enjoyed golf, reading, and was an avid Washington Redskins fan. But those who knew him best will remember him most for the person he was—a kind and gentle soul who made everyone feel loved. He was truly an angel on earth to so many, and his loving presence will be deeply missed.

Ward was preceded in death by his parents, Archer Ward Grayson, Sr. and Texie Wingfield Reynolds Grayson, both of Christiansburg, Virginia; his sister, Jane Shelton; and his son, Scott Grayson.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Gay Conner Grayson; his children, Michael Grayson and wife Sarah, D. J. Randolph, Kim Simpson, Joe Furrow and wife Lori, and Ginny Meadows and husband Jeff; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren, along with many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.

Each member of his family carries special memories of Ward that will always be cherished. His legacy of faith, kindness, gentleness, and love will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.

A memorial service celebrating Ward’s life will be held at Living Water Baptist Church in Longs, South Carolina, on September 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Ward will be laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Living Water Baptist Church Missionary Fund in Longs, South Carolina, or the North Myrtle Beach Gideon Camp.

Ward’s life was a beautiful reflection of his faith and his love for others. Although he will be deeply missed, those who knew and loved him will forever carry his gentle spirit and the precious memories he gave them in their hearts.
