Barbara Patterson

Born on June 16, 1939, in Ossining, New York, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late Ludwig “George” and Elizabeth Mueller.

In 1961, Barbara married the love of her life, James F. Patterson. Together they built a family centered on love, resilience, and devotion. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her daughter, Deborah A. Satterfield; her son, James F. Patterson Jr.; and her granddaughter, Alexis. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Janice M. Downie (Scott), Stephen G. Patterson (Cheryl), and Gregory J. Patterson, along with daughter-in-law Kimberly Welch Patterson. Barbara also leaves behind 11 beloved grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and countless extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.

After relocating from Yonkers, New York, to Calabash, North Carolina, in 1998, Barbara quickly embraced coastal life and made it her home. She became a familiar and welcoming presence in the community, always eager to help newcomers discover the charm of her little slice of paradise in southeastern North Carolina. Whether she was relaxing at Sunset Beach, enjoying time at the neighborhood pool, or happily serving as the unofficial chauffeur for friends, Barbara found joy in being surrounded by people she loved.

Barbara had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her kindness, quick wit, generous spirit, and unwavering love for family and friends left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—a day at the beach, a conversation with a friend, and time spent making memories with those she loved most.

Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless lives she touched through her warmth, compassion, and generous heart.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved

Visitation will be held at Lee Funeral Home, 11840 Highway 90, Little River, South Carolina 29566, on Wednesday July 8, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 5105 Ocean Hwy W, Shallotte, NC 28470, on Thursday July 9, 2026, at 10:00 am.
