Betty Jane Latham Moore, 92, of Longs, South Carolina was welcomed into the presence of her Savior Saturday morning, May 16, 2020. She was born on November 2, 1927 to William and Marvel Latham in Binghamton, New York. She was the first child and was followed by a sister (Marvel Ann, deceased) and two brothers (Clifford, deceased and William, Jr.).
She married the late Reverend Thomas Moore on July 27, 1945 in McClure, NY. She supported him in multiple pastorates in New York, New Jersey, and Indiana over the next forty-one years until his death in 1986. They were blessed with nine children, Thomas Moore, Jr. (Ruth Anne), Gail Dale (Darryl, deceased), Carla Sullivan (John), Michael Moore (deceased, Bobbie), Kevin Moore (Becky), Nancy Clark (Bruce), Stephen Moore (deceased, Gerry), Mark Moore (Sharon), and Peter Moore (Louise). She loved all her twenty-three grandchildren and nearly forty great-grandchildren dearly.
For many years, Sundays found her teaching Sunday School for children, especially those in the four and five-year-old classes. She enjoyed many opportunities to serve others as a pastor’s wife, a school librarian, senior ministries, and supporting her children and grandchildren. Her life and work touched countless other lives, most recently her church family at Wampee Baptist Church, Wampee, South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 6 at Wampee Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of any flowers or gifts, the family asks that you remember Betty with a gift to a ministry that reflects her love for Christ and others: Gideon’s International or Samaritan’s Purse. Her Sunday school class was always active in repairing and recovering Bibles for the Gideon’s Prison ministry, https://www.gideons.org/donate. Samaritian’s Purse’s teach a child to read and write ministry supports learning, reading and loving Jesus—all of which were passions of Betty’s, https://www.samaritanspurse.org/?s=teach+a+child.
A guestbook is available at www.leefandcrematory.com.
Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach is serving the family.
