Charles Michael (Mickey) Harris of Little River, South Carolina

On Friday July 5th, 2019 we lost a dear husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, mentor, coach and “Subway Dad” when Mickey (Charles Michael) Harris, 67, took his final breath here on earth. He was at home surrounded by his devoted family: Sheryl, wife of 31 years, Michael Dayne, his eldest son and his youngest son Charles Hunter, and that’s exactly where he wanted to be. Mickey was born in Gastonia, NC to Ernest F. Harris (deceased) and Audrey Montez McAlister (surviving) and is survived by his sister Cathy Parrott, a niece and two nephews.

After moving to the Grand Strand in the early 70’s he began a long standing career at Quadrant Property Management, Inc. and later owned and operated Property Management Plus Inc. and then Harrismint Dev., LLC - Subway Franchises.

Mickey will be remembered most for his generous heart, quick wit, love of laughter, words of advice, his golf handicap, his keen eye for coaching, athletic achievements, his smooth dance steps as he twirled his wife on the dance floor and a love of Subway cookies and ice cream!

Some might say Mickey lost his fight with cancer, but we believe his battle was won when he entered into the presence of his Lord, Jesus Christ. Our hearts find rest knowing he is with his loved ones that led the way to that far better place, free from sorrows and pain. Mickey and Sheryl were members of the North Strand Community Church in Little River.

Mickey had a heart for student athletes that was evidenced by his years of volunteer coaching and mentoring. One of his favorite teachings was: It’s the little things that add up to make a big difference.

In honor of his legacy and in lieu of flowers please make donations to The Mickey Harris Memorial B.I.G.M.A.A.C. Scholarship Fund at GoFundMe.

A Celebration of Life is being planned on Mickey’s birthday: July 26th, 2019 at 7:30 pm in River Hills Country Club, Little River, SC.

I feel I've know you guys forever. We may not have spoken much in the last few years, but you all have always been in my thoughts & prayers. I'm so grateful God has allowed me to know each of you and for the opportunity to work for you at PMP. Great memories! Great people! Love & prayers being sent your way Sheryl, Dayne, & Hunter. Give each other a big hug for me!

My memory to share about Mickey is...Mickey would ask me, do you know what the saddest sound in the world is? Then he'd say something along these lines... My pop told me, It's when you sip the last little bit of coca cola thru the straw, and you hear that gurgling sound that tells you the coca cola is all gone!!! Can't tell you how many times I think of that when I'm drinking my soda!!! :-)

Many who know me will say I can say I talk too much. At this time too much is not enough. The loss of Mickey leaves a void in my heart that will never be replaced. Since both of us shared 7/26 as our birthday he referred to me as "my brother from a different mother". We had so much in common, both college basketball players, coaches, competitive golfers and business owners. Mickey was one of the kindest most caring people I have ever known. We spent countless Saturdays together on the golf course with Roger Durbin and Will Schoedler. My job was to supply Coors Light and Mickey's was to bring Subway sandwiches which ran out well before the beer. Mickey and I solved all of the worlds problems sitting in the parking lot, the back porch of River Hills or my outdoor bar with beer in hand. We were competitive on the course, the ping pong table, or studying college basketball. My life will forever be better for sharing a friendship with Mickey and Sheryl. The two of them were invaluable in their support when my wife Donna battled breast cancer. My favorite picture of Mickey is attached wearing Donna's red wig during that journey. Since we shared baldness as well as birthdays makes it even more special. I know for certain that my dear friend is in a better place and look forward to the day that he and I will be together on God's basketball court competing as usual. Love and support to Sheryl, Dayne and Hunter and of course Bella and Boomer. Love to all.

Mickey, your great sense of humour, the love for your family and your strong character have been and will be a beacon to those who know you, your family and loved ones. I thank you and Sheryl for allowing me to have been part of your home for a short while, 18 years ago. You welcomed me with open arms and I had the best six months of my life. I experienced America in an authentic and unforgettable way. I will always remember you dropping me off at school, having deep conversations, listening to K-Love, talking about growing up, our faith, accents, sport and so much more. You have made a lasting impact on my life. It was great catching up with you in 2011 and thanks to Facebook we have been able to stay in contact across oceans. Sheryl, Dayne and Hunter are blessed to have you as their father, husband and rock. See you one day, when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus is Lord.

I really don’t know where to began when it comes to Mr Mickey, he was simply awesome! He was a boss, a friend, a Subway Dad to me!! My first official Boss, he was! A One of a kind boss man who cared for each and every one of his employees! I am so grateful to have met and been employed with such a boss man as Mr Mickey, my job at Subway was always one to remember from all the Christmas parties, Halloween fun, the celebrations with opening the two additional Subways while I was employed there, to him taking his vacations and making sure his employees had a souvenirs from his travels while we held Subway down for him to enjoy his travels with his family including his spoiled fur baby Bella, Lord I use to enjoy watching how excited he was over that pup! She was something spoiled!! I am really going to miss catching him in Subway and talking to him because he sure would listen! Lord, you got a one of a kind Angel with you walking these clouds and we sure will miss him!!!! We love you Papa Mickey Mouse, as My daughter would call him!!

Sheryl, so sorry to hear about Mickey. How wonderful to know that he is in his real home now.
I really have great memories of You two when we were singing with All His. What a great time we had all of us together. Not many days go by that I don’t have a memory of those day. It was such a blessing that God gave us that time together. Praying for you and your family.

I remember Mickey as our children went to school together. He was such a friendly, kind man. I also remember his subway shop in Tabor City. He went to be with the Lord too early. We will miss you!
Rest in peace
