She was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, service, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many others whose lives she touched. She will be remembered for the profound impact she had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Carol was born in Stockton, NJ, and graduated from South Hunterdon Regional High School in West Amwell, NJ, in 1967. Soon after, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Sigafoos, on October 7, 1967. Together, they shared a lifetime of love and created beautiful memories until death parted them after 58 wonderful years.
Their life together involved moving several times, and Carol's love for her family always made each new house a home. She began her life journey in Lambertville, N.J., where she worked for the NJ Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries, and during this time, gave birth to three beautiful sons, Bryan Paul, Randy Scott, and Matthew Peter.
In 1978, they moved to Washington Crossing, PA, where she continued to raise her family and became an active member of Washington Crossing United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord and expressed her faith through music and dance by joining the church choir, a local Gospel group, and a contemporary Christian dance group that took God's message to the community. She and her husband also happily took on roles as Youth Group Leaders, mentoring the junior and senior high youth groups. Through her efforts, doing the Lord's work with her hands, she watched the ministry grow from 30 to over 60 youth each Sunday.
In 1990, Paul’s job led the family to Rochester, NY. Once again, Carol’s caring support transformed the new house into a warm home, guiding her teenage sons as they adjusted to a new school and made new friends. In 1991, after the boys had grown, Carol followed her dream of becoming a nurse. She enrolled at Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, NY, and graduated in 1994. After three years of hard work and dedication, she happily took the NCLEX-RN exam and achieved her goal of becoming a registered nurse. She gained valuable experience working in various hospitals and eventually discovered her true passion working in OB-GYN offices, a career she truly loved. In 2006, she had the opportunity to participate in a medical mission to The Gambia in Africa, working alongside Nigerian doctors, dentists, and eye specialists. She provided medical care to God's children who, in most cases, had never seen a doctor before. She was humbled by the love, patience, and joy of the Gambian people, who sometimes waited up to 8 hours to see a doctor.
Carol and Paul retired in 2007, which led them to Calabash, NC, where her kindness had a profound impact on many. They joined Seaside United Methodist Church in Sunset Beach, NC, where Carol initially served as secretary and later became the Parish Nurse after the Pastor learned she was an RN. This new ministry excited her, and she found it to be the most meaningful nursing experience she had ever had. The role was fulfilling, and the church members became more than just congregants; they became family.
In 2013, her stepfather passed away, and their journey led her to Port Charlotte, FL. To care for her aging mother when her mom passed away in 2018, they moved back to Little River, SC, to be near family and friends. She joyfully returned to SUMC and took on the position of Director of Congregational Care, immersing herself once again in the work she truly loved. She devoted herself to this role until her declining health prompted her to retire in 2024.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Paul; her sons, Bryan Paul of Little River, SC, and Matthew Peter of Longs, SC her legacy will continue through her adored grandchildren, Jacquiline Rae, Jessica Lynn, and Ryan James Sigafoos of Rochester, NY, Arabella Jolie Olivetto, and Eden Atalaya Sigafoos of Longs, SC.
