North Myrtle Beach
Caroline Gushue -- beloved wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother -- died May 15, 2018, at the age of 83 in North Myrtle Beach. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 58 years, George Gushue; son, Michael Gushue; daughter, Nancy Gushue; and four grandchildren: Sarah, Jordan, Connor and Tyler.
Born January 2, 1935, in Buffalo, NY, Carol was the oldest daughter of Hungarian parents John and Susan Palonai. She was raised by her grandmother and helped take care of her two younger sisters Gloria and Janet, now both deceased. She was tall in stature and in spirit, and overcame many hardships growing up but never lost her sense of humor and penchant for fun. A graduate of Buffalo State Teachers College, Carol taught second grade and later pursued a nursing career working with the elderly.
She enjoyed crosswords and trivia, was an avid reader and television enthusiast, and was an especially talented and passionate cook and baker. Carol loved to travel, and especially loved the beach, and spent her golden years with her husband ocean side in North Myrtle Beach.
Services will be private with the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

Thank you for always being there for me, Gram... from the time I was small and we played picnic in the backyard, to the present when we shared recipes and gossip about our favorite tv shows. I'll miss your sage advice and sarcastic humor. Love this picture of you in NYC so I'm sharing it. XOXO

I am sorry for your loss. I remember Carol with fond memories. I remember her beautiful sense of humor and the laughs we shared on her backyard patio, the fun we shared at our block parties on Wendover. I remember her baking and being so kind to her neighbors. Yes, she was a good friend and I remember her fondly.

We will miss Carol's dry humor and wit during our phone conversations with her. Always felt better after speaking with her.
