
Carrie Christine (Hill) Corder, age 92, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her residence on July 25, 2024. Christine was born to parents Amon O. Hill and Carrie Ann (Sharp) Hill on December 25, 1932 at Rolla, Missouri. Her mother died at her birth and her father died two weeks after her graduation from high school.
In high school, at age 13, she was awarded Sophomore Citizen of the Year with the honor of being presented to the Governor and wife, in Jefferson City, Missouri. Lunch followed at the governor’s mansion; and a sit-in of the days’ legislative proposals with permission to cast a personal vote. At the mansion, was a beautiful marble staircase. Eyeing its shining, waxed to perfection mahogany bannister, she wanted to slide down it so badly…but didn’t!
Christine was charter member of three baptist churches in the Pioneer Field of Salt Lake City, Utah. As secretary to the executive staff of the two-state Baptist Convention of Utah Idaho; was instrumental in its formation and was its soloist.
After several years in banking and reaching officer standing in a federal savings and loan in Texas, she was dismissed in the approaching collapse of the savings and loan concept. During its heyday, she coordinated the Texas Savings and Loan League and the National Savings and Loan League in a combined convention in El Paso, Texas. She engaged dignitaries U.S. congressman, Richard C. White and keynote speaker, Paul Harvey.
As a member of El Paso Chamber of Commerce, she was its ambassador to NORAD in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was also ambassador to Jewish National Asthma Research Center in Denver, Colorado.
Becoming a member of the county Music Association, Christine acted as sole agent in bringing Marty Robbins to El Paso to narrate the Sun Bowl halftime celebration of El Paso-Juarez Birthday Event.
Christine enjoyed being an active charter member of the ONE-HUNDRED CLUB of the El Paso Symphony.
As the first Executive Director of El Paso Pro-Musica, she engaged the Men’s Chorus of the German Air Defense School stationed at Ft. Bliss, as pre-concert opening for the Christmas Concerts. Also introducing General Flada and Colonel Niemitz and their wives. At one Christmas, she was called upon to provide music for the visiting Cardinal of Stuttgart, Germany.
She served on the grief counseling committee of the Chaplains’ office at Ft. Bliss and chose to visit the amputees in the amputee ward of William Beaumont Army Hospital. Following the savings and loan collapse, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado it being a military city, she had the pleasure of dressing many homes; some belonging to the “brass” elite!
After the death of her husband, Kenneth Corder, she began designing, building, and selling her own homes. Her father had been a carpenter; and little did she know how much she has learned from him when as a child, she handed him nails, hammers, and saws while he worked. As a teenager, she was also his “helper” as they made violins together. Married twice, the first marriage was blessed with two wonderful sons. Second only to her relationship to Jesus Christ, they were the GREATEST JOYS OF HER LIFE.
Survivors include her sons, Mike Miller (Linda), Sean Miller (Donna); granddaughters, Ashley Miller Anderson (Ben), Kelly Miller (Brandon); great granddaughter, Ava Anderson; great grandson, Benjamin Anderson.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Lee Funeral Home & Crematory. 11840 Hwy 90 Little River, SC 29566.
