Charles "Chuck" Law Torrence III

Charles “Chuck” Law Torrence III, 78, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Born on June 20, 1948, in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late Charles Law Torrence, Jr. and Marguerite Phillips Torrence.

Chuck was the devoted husband of Janie Ragsdale Torrence. They were married on September 14, 1968, in Albemarle, NC, and made their home in Charlotte, NC, where they were blessed with their only daughter, Allyson. Chuck and his family were active members of Kilgo United Methodist Church, where faith and fellowship were meaningful in their lives together.

In his professional life, Chuck built a long and respected career as a sales representative of industrial valves and controls. He began at Carolina Controls Company and completed his career with Aalberts Integrated Piping Systems. In 2017, Chuck and Janie moved to North Myrtle Beach from Charlotte, NC, and then moved to Little River, SC in 2023, where he continued working remotely—well before remote work became a necessity for so many. In 2024, at the age of 76, Chuck retired from Aalberts Integrated Piping Systems. closing a chapter marked by reliability, professionalism, and quiet leadership.

Chuck found joy in the speed, craft, and detail of the automotive world. An avid NASCAR fan—especially of Dale Earnhardt and Bobby Allison—he carried a lifelong love of fast cars. That enthusiasm lived not only in the races he followed, but also in the patience and precision he brought to being a lifetime builder of model cars and a collector of diecast cars.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Janie, is his daughter, Allyson (Allan) Rutledge; three grandchildren, Zachary (Katie) Rutledge, Jessica Rutledge, and Sydney Rutledge; and his sister, Miriam Betts. Chuck is also survived by a “soon-to-be” great-granddaughter, whose precious name was only entrusted to him.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory, 11840 Highway 90, Little River, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m.
