

Born on December 23, 1944, in Camden, New Jersey, Chris was the son of the late John and Catherine Smith McGovern.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Chris honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. On April 1, 1967, he married his devoted wife, Joan, beginning a loving marriage that spanned nearly 60 years. Together, they were blessed with two children and built their life and family in New Jersey.
Chris worked for the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard until his retirement. After retiring, he and Joan moved to Longs, South Carolina, where they enjoyed retirement together.
He was an incredibly kind and loving man who was deeply special to his family and friends. He had a wonderful gift for bringing joy to others and always wanted to cheer people up and make them laugh. His warmth, kindness, and sense of humor touched so many lives, and he will be remembered with great love and affection.
Chris was also a lifelong and devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan. He took great pride in cheering on his team and sharing his love of baseball with those around him.
Chris will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Joan; his daughter, Jennifer King (Sean); his son, Christopher McGovern (Shelle); his grandchildren, Kylie, Cooper, and Liam; and his sister, Mary Jane Davis (Tim). His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his kindness, laughter, and the love he gave so freely.
