April 19, 1940 - December 25, 2023
Clifford Coleman, Jr., 83, passed away from this earth on December 25, 2023, and joined in the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ in heaven.
Clifford was born in Lee County, NC on April 19, 1940, son of the late Clifford, Sr. and Rena Gunter Coleman. Clifford graduated from Lee Senior High School where he was a star running back. This was the beginning of his lifelong love of sports. After graduation he was trained to lay brick by his older brother, JT. This lead to his 30 year career of teaching bricklaying in the Western Harnett Community. Clifford helped begin the careers of many young boys who became successful business men. He was also a popular and successful football, basketball and softball coach. Clifford would travel as far as needed to attend his family's school and sporting events. He spent countless hours on and usually driving the ski boat. Cliff provided his family with wonderful memories of great times with Dad.
After retirement, Clifford convinced Shelby to move to North Myrtle Beach, SC. Oyster roasts, sausage cookouts and feeding the birds while sharing stories with friends on the beach were some of his favorite things. Yet his career in acting became his claim to fame. Clifford loved the beach life!
Clifford is survived by his devoted wife, Shelby Taylor Coleman, whom he simply adored. He often bragged about her beauty, exceptional cooking abilities and her kind, caring heart. Cliff knew he had hit the jackpot 62 years ago when they married on July 15, 1961. She was the love of his life and best friend who stood by her man to the very end.
Also survived by Clifford are his three children whom he loved unconditionally. His daughter, Renée, was daddy's little girl. His sons, Jonathan and Benjamin, knew their dad would always stand by them through thick and thin. Clifford adored his grandchildren; Taylor, Zachary, Cynthia Jean, Allison, Payton, Christopher, Austin, Matthew, and Brayden. His great-grandchildren Sadie and Magnolia were just perfect in his eyes. Cliff is also survived by one sister, Eloise Rosser Weinzetl. Clifford was preceded in death by his 3 brothers; Jimmy Coleman, JT Rosser, Norman Rosser, and 1 sister, Omie Lynn Gaines.
The family welcomes visitors at Clifford's home. We also invite you to join in celebration of his life on Sunday, January 7, 2024. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm – 3pm at Antioch Baptist Church at 6670 Old US Hwy 421, Lillington, NC 27546. The service will follow at 3pm in the Antioch Baptist Church sanctuary.
