

He was a devoted father to Patrick (Priscilla) and Michael (Susan), Lynn, Amy, Mary Ann, Kate, Maggie and Joe in a previous marriage.
In his 43-year marriage to Carol Melampy, Don embraced her children, Kristen Cheesman, Lafayette, CO and Kevin Kick (Katie) Erie, CO as his own. They opened their home and hearts to many foster children over 16 years. He will be remembered and dearly missed by his wife, children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Don, an Engineer by profession, manufacturing coiled springs retired from Henry Miller Spring & Mfg., Co. In Pittsburgh, PA. He started his own company, Melampy Mfg. CO., became a consultant in hot wound springs and was recognized for his knowledge in the industry.
Retirement brought 29 joyful years in Bemus Point, NY, Rockport, TX, Erie, CO, and North Myrtle Beach, SC. He enjoyed many pursuits including fishing, golf, boating, crafting furniture, bird carving and finally enjoying the beach.
Deeply committed to his faith, Don gave many hours to his churches, CASA in Corpus Christi, TX, Knights of Columbus, and ACTS through time and woodworking talent. His desire to serve was constantly appreciated.
Please remember him as the kind, dedicated gentle spirit that he was, and think of him as the angel who will be saying “Life Is Good”.

A memorial mass will be held at at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1100 8th Ave. N., North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, 29582 on March 25, 2026 at 1:30pm with a reception following at Joey’s Clubhouse Grill in Tidewater.
