Donzil “Chuck” Lee Eddy, better known as Coach to many, passed as a result of complications from surgery at Duke University on Monday, February 20, 2017 at his home in Colonial Charters.
He enjoyed life until the age of 76.
Chuck was one of seven children to Harold and Katherine Eddy. He was preceded in death by his sister, Winnie; brothers Carl “Uncle Bigin”, Gary “Uncle Freck”, James “Uncle Leroy the boy”, and Marvin “Uncle Bones”. He is survived by his brother Harold Jr. “Uncle Popcorn” of Vienna, WV.
He served in the US Army from 1959-1960.
Chuck was a quality father and friend to many. From high school at Parkersburg, WV, where he was a four sport letterman and was the All-State Captain on the 1958 State Championship Basketball Team, to his college days at Glenville State where he played basketball. From his profession of teaching and coaching at Williamstown, St. Mary’s, Belpre, OH, and his alma mater Parkersburg High School to his retirement days where he spent many days at the Surf Club Golf Course in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
Chuck Eddy leaves behind his two sons, Brian Eddy and his wife Lisa of Charleston, WV and Danny “Boone” Eddy and his wife Christine of High Point, NC and mother of his sons Margaret Quinto. Chuck is also survived by long time companion Gail Ogdin, He worshiped his grandchildren from his sons: Cristina Eddy, graduate student at Adderson Broadus Physican Assistant Program, Luke Eddy, Senior guard on Elon University basketball team and business major, Kate Eddy “name sake of his mother” is a high school senior who will be playing college soccer next season, and Gus Eddy, a freshman at George Washington High School in WV. Jacob and Rachel Eddy are twins who will be attending NC State University and UNC in the fall semester. Camile Dinghamis a freshman attending UNC Wilmington and Will Dingham currently attending Ragsdale High School in NC.
A ceremony for family will occur at a later scheduled date for the scattering of ashes on his mother’s grave site in Parkersburg, WV.
