
Edward Baker, 84, of Little River South Carolina, passed away on May 8, 2026. A proud veteran, devoted father and grandfather, loyal friend, and tireless advocate for others, Ed lived a life defined by service, determination, humor, and heart. His presence filled every room he entered, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Born on May 28, 1941 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, to Robert Baker and Marie Cole Baker, Ed grew into a man known for his honesty, strength of character, and unstoppable spirit. If Ed believed in something, he pursued it with relentless energy and conviction. Friends often described him as one of a kind, a man whose drive and enthusiasm seemed to outpace the years.
Ed proudly served his country and later dedicated much of his life to helping fellow veterans receive the opportunities and support they deserved. While attending Pennsylvania State University, he became a passionate advocate for student veterans. He was an integral part of establishing the vets club at Penn State, getting PHEAA money to vets, establishing the PSU president’s advisory committee on veteran affairs, and establishing the first vets house at Penn State University. He was dedicated to establishing organizations, programs, and resources that improved the lives of countless veterans pursuing higher education. He believed deeply in fairness, opportunity, and standing up for those who needed a voice.
He graduated from Penn State University in 1973 with a degree in Law Enforcement and Corrections and later worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. No matter the role, Ed was respected for his work ethic, straightforward nature, and willingness to help others.
Ed is survived by his sons, Sean Baker and Kyle Baker, whom he shared with his former wife, Nancy Baker, along with his beloved grandchildren, extended family, and many lifelong friends and fellow veterans.
Ed leaves behind a legacy of service, honesty, and perseverance. The lives he touched, the causes he championed, and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for the energy, laughter, and unwavering spirit he brought to the world every day.
