Edward F. Simpson, 68, died May 21, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 25, 1949 in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Harold Lewis and Marguerite Croll Simpson.
Mr. Simpson is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ellen Voltzow Simpson; son, John Edward “Jed” Simpson; and mother-in-law, Elaine Voltzow (Ricky).
Ed passed from this earth after a long battle with cancer. He endured uncomplainingly, a man of true character to the very end. He enjoyed retirement in South Carolina: gallery hopping, boating, reading, dining out, being with family, and spending time with his newfound friends. He fought hard to have more time for all of that; he relinquished the fight with acceptance and without regret.
Ed’s family would like to thank Dr. George Geils, Jr. and the staff of Charleston Hematology and Oncology; Amedisys Hospice, especially the skilled and compassionate Barbara Cornell, RN; all of the doctors on Ed’s extended medical team; and their incredible friends for the care and support they have provided so lovingly and generously throughout this journey.
Ed preferred donations in lieu of flowers, and he had two requests. Because he loved his cats almost as much as he loved his two legged family, he thought donations to the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, www.humanesocietynmb.org would be appropriate. Ed’s greatest frustration was the lack of treatment options for his rare cancer: acinic cell carcinoma. With that in mind, we discovered the Cancer Research Institute. The institute is researching immunotherapy as a cure for all cancers. Ed felt that the work being done there will someday help people like him. www.cancerresearch.org.
A celebration of Ed's life will be held on Sunday, May 27 from 2 until 6 at the family’s home. All friends are welcome.
A guestbook is available at www.leefhandcrematory.com.
Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach is serving the family.
