Grandma, you are at peace now and I am so thankful to have had you in my life for 49 years. I can remember the countless times you and I baked together, I also remember you would tell my sisters and I to go down to the beach and gather sea shells and we would craft. And make earrings or necklaces or bracelets. You were so handy with making ceramics also. I remember waking up in the morning when we were visiting and you had hot coco with marshmallows and chocolate chip cookies ready to eat. That was our breakfast. I remember you making homemade waffles as well a spaghetti dinners. You loved the kitchen. I will carry out your baking tradition because I have never stopped baking. I will learn to do all your recipes also. 
I also remember every Christmas weather you and papa were in Va beach or wether we traveled to SC for Christmas,my sisters and I always got a whole set of nail polish. This was every single Christmas! We had nail polish to last us lifetimes really. 
Please tell my dearest papa hi for me and my dad. Thank you for all the memories you left. 
You are now happy and I am at peace knowing you are pain free and with your husband now.

I have so many memories of growing up with Betty Jean on John’s Avenue in Akron, Ohio. 
Betty Jean, my sister Deloris and I loved to hang out together. We were often called the three musketeers. Being the youngest of the group, I always wanted to tag along. We were constantly doing little things that got us in trouble, and Betty Jean’s father would make us sit on chairs for time out. Betty Jean would always start laughing and then my sister and I would join in laughing so hard that none of us could stop. This, of course, upset her dad and he would add more time to our punishment.
Since this is October and Halloween is rapidly approaching, I must tell you about one night when the three of us went out Trick-or-Treating together. Betty Jean must have been about nine years old. I remember that she wore Grandma’s high heel shoes, a grown-up dress and lots of costume jewelry. We all had large paper grocery bags to fill as we took off into the night. Eventually, our bags were getting full and it was starting to get late, so we decided to make just one last stop before heading home. We rang the doorbell, yelled Trick-or-Treat, and a man made a quick deposit into each of our bags. We said, “Thank you”, and ran off for home, anxious to dig into the delicious candy in our now-heavy bags. Before we made it home, however, my bag suddenly ripped open and all my candy spilled out on the ground. That last man had put ice cubes in our bags. Since Betty Jean and Deloris had more candy in their bags, their ice had not soaked all the way through. I was in tears as we arrived at the front porch, but Betty Jean and my sister shared their treats and the night was saved. Good times!
I will always remember you, Betty Jean, for your smile, laughter and your kindness. Throughout the many years of our lives, we always stayed in touch. I will miss you dear cousin. May the Lord bless you and give you peace forever more.
