Ferrel Gaylon Camp, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on February 11, 1941, in Camden, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Ferrel and Ethel Young Camp.
After graduating from high school, Ferrel proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1958 until 1962. Following his military service, he began a distinguished 30-year career with the National Security Agency at the Department of Defense, retiring in 1992.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Ferrel married Joyce (Carlin) Greim on September 8, 1978, blending two families together and later welcoming a daughter of their own. Family was at the center of his life, and he especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as Pop Pop.
Ferrel had a wonderful sense of humor and a way of making everyone around him feel at ease. He was an avid Baltimore sports fan, cheering passionately for the Orioles, Ravens, and Capitals. He also loved bowling and golfing, enjoying both for many years. In the early 1960’s, he rolled the first 300 game at the Fair Lanes center in Laurel, Maryland. A talented golfer as well, he belonged to golf groups in Fort Meade, Maryland, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Even in his later years, he could best everyone in family outings—often using only three clubs, and one of those wasn’t even a putter. In 1998, Ferrel and Joyce moved from Millersville, Maryland, to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where Ferrel happily improved his golf game, made new friends, and became a regular at Captain Archie’s. He also adored his loyal dog, Nala, who was never far from his side.
Ferrel shared a lifelong bond with his brother, James Wesley Camp, with whom he shared many memories and laughter through the years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Carlin Camp; his children, Frederick Greim III, Stephen Camp (Kimberly), Todd Greim, Tracy Dudeck, and Jessica Camp; his grandchildren, Kyle Greim, Abigail Camp, Johnathan Greim, Hannah Dudeck, and Mason Williams; and his brother, James Wesley Camp.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to McLeod Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during his final days.
In keeping with Ferrel’s wishes, no services will be held. Those wishing to honor his memory may make a donation to McLeod Hospice at https://www.mcleodhealth.org/foundation/ways-to-donate/special-gifts-naming-opportunities/hospice/.
