Born in Mineral Wells, Texas, on December 11, 1945, he was the son of loving parents Harry Wilson Rankin Jr. and Esta Norris Rankin of Loris, SC. Ross was very proud to say he grew up in Green Sea, SC, with wonderful memories that lasted him a lifetime.
Ross was a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, a faithful Gamecock amongst a family of even prouder “Tigers”.
In 1967, Ross was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army. He attended Officer Candidate School and later valiantly served in the Viet Nam War, receiving the Bronze Star among other prestigious awards. He always gave credit to Psalm 91: verses 1-16, for bringing him home.
Ross was a banker for over 40 years, starting two independent banks in NC and loved nothing more than putting together a “deal” for his many corporate clients. He never met a stranger and this gift allowed him many friends and acquaintances throughout his life.
Left to mourn his loss are his wife Dianna; son Wilson Ross Rankin (Becky); daughters Lisa Allsbrook Rankin Maloy (John); Margaret Rankin deMontfort (John Paul); sister, Mary Esta Rankin Jacobs (David); Scott S. Weaver; and brother-in-law, William Taylor (Gayla). Ross was a loving and supportive grandfather to Wilson Ross Rankin Jr.; Brayden Norris Rankin; Annie Rankin; and Jasper (Jack) Weaver. Many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. Ross also leaves behind his “Shadow” Dinky.
Ross was a true Southern Gentleman who will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
