George Louis "Lou" Jones III, born November 13, 1973, in Martinsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family Monday evening December 5, 2022, after a long period of illness. Despite being sick, Lou rallied many times to show strength and remain in the presence of family and friends, who were his greatest joy.
Lou was a talented and energetic child. He was immediately drawn to the world of sports and loved baseball especially, even from his first tee ball days. He played varsity sports in high school as a member of the baseball and soccer teams and played on the school basketball team with his sister Nancy cheering beside him. He was valedictorian of his class, 1992, a graduate of Carlisle School and NC State University alum.
Lou loved to travel and have a view of the ocean. He made some of his best memories on the shores of Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach, The Outer Banks, Wrightsville Beach, St. John, and beyond — always in the company of those he loved.
Lou started his family in Wilmington, NC where he also bought his first home. As his family grew, Lou relocated to even sunnier North Myrtle Beach, SC where he made countless friends over the years and his three daughters graduated from high school.
In all the beautiful places Lou lived, he will be remembered for his gentle heart, extraordinary ambition, chaotic sense of humor, persistent charm and timeless good looks. He was loved by so many and the number of those who loved him continued to grow each day he was still with us. His love for family and friends was unconditional, with those he lost remaining in his heart forever, never forgotten.
Lou is survived by his devoted mother Juliette Greene Howerton and father George Louis Jones II, his beloved sisters Nancy Jones Armstrong and Kristen Jones Parker, his cherished cousins, godson, niece and nephews RJ Armstrong, Joseph Armstrong, Lindsay Parker, Aidan Parker, Noah Parker, his former wife and mother to his children Christy Hatcher Jones, and most proudly by his daughters Margaret Alexis Jones, Elizabeth McNair Jones, and Lillian Marie Jones.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, December 12, 2022 in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Nancy Armstrong.
