Harold David Prater

Harold David Prater, 82, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at his home in the loving arms of his wife. Born on March 11, 1941 in Saltville, VA, he was one of nine children of the late Cecil E. Prater and Rosa Prater. Together with his family, he had just celebrated his 82nd birthday.

Following his graduation from Rich Valley High School, Harold moved to Rockville, Maryland where he met his wife, MaryAnne Herren Prater. They were married for 59 years. He worked for Eastern Supply Co in Rockville, MD for 40 years before his second job with Montgomery County Public Schools, MD, where he retired. Upon retirement, Harold and MaryAnne moved to Longs, SC where he treasured time with his family. He loved playing golf with his sons, grandsons, and friends.

A devout Christian, his love of Jesus was unwavering. Harold was a member of Living Water Baptist Church and The Prayer Warriors Sunday school class. Although he suffered with Louie Body Dementia and Parkinson's disease, Harold and his family held strong to their Christian beliefs. His earthly presence will be greatly missed, but we know we will see him in Heaven one day.

Surviving in addition to his wife, MaryAnne, are his children, Barbara Prater Dove (Dana), David Prater, Rob Prater (Alyssa); six grandchildren: Nicole Poe, Alex Poe, Kevin Poe, Luke Poe, Anders Prater, Killeen Prater; great-grandson, Riley Randall; and great-granddaughter, Chelsea Ellis.

A service will be held at a later date.
