Born on December 21, 1943 in Gary, WV, Harold was the son of the late Amelia and Harold Edward Yost. He graduated from Welch High School before serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict as part of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. He was a decorated soldier and a Master Marksman.
Following his overseas service, Harold graduated with a Bachelors in Education from the University of South Carolina, and received a Masters in Special Education from the University of West Virginia. He dedicated most of his working years to assisting children with special needs and behavioral difficulties at several schools: including Bluefield Junior High School and Bluefield High School in West Virginia, along with Marion High School and Myrtle Beach Middle School in South Carolina.
He was an avid sports fan and coached varsity and junior varsity sports at nearly every school at which he taught. He loved college football; especially his Alma Mater, the Gamecocks.
He was preceded in death by his wife Deborah Ann Yost, his younger sister Linda Bomengen, as well as many beloved uncles and aunts. He is survived by his daughter, Wendi; son, Brian; grandchildren, Garland Elizabeth and Charles Bennett Yost; sister, Amelia “Nena” Tetrault, along with many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services will be private with the family.
