James Ronald Edward DeWitt, Sr was born on March 12, 1944, in Homosassa, Florida, and peacefully entered the presence of his Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 24, 2026, after a life faithfully lived in service to God, family, and country.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne DeWitt; his son, James Ronald Edward DeWitt, Jr (Samantha); his daughter, Christy DeWitt-O'Connor (Lance); his cherished granddaughters, Nicole Jenkins, Raven Bertie (Ethan), and Cierra Eller (Vinny), grandsons, Christopher James DeWitt and Liam T. O'Connor, and cousins Darlene, Alfred, Lester, and Tommy. His family was a source of great joy and pride.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Walter DeWitt; his mother, Ceceila Marie DeWitt (Baulknight); his brother, Horace DeWitt; his uncles, Silas Ward Baulknight, David Beck; his aunts, Sadie Mae Baulknight, Edna Beck; daughter, Angela Jenkins-Eller.
Jim, as he was fondly referred to, was deeply passionate about his God-given mission to go into all the world sharing the Gospel. No matter where he went or who he spoke with, conversations inevitably found their way to faith and the truth of God’s Word. He was a longtime and devoted member of the North Strand Gideon’s Camp, serving faithfully in the ministry of placing Bibles in hotels, motels, at outreach events, and sharing God's word with the incarcerated at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Reaching out to others with God’s Word brought him great joy.
A proud patriot, Jim loved both God and his country. He honorably served 25½ years in the United States Air Force, exemplifying dedication, integrity, and perseverance throughout his military career finally retiring Master Sgt from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Gifted with words, he had a natural ability to tell stories, offer wisdom, and encourage others through both humor and heartfelt conversation. As an accomplished author, he fulfilled his calling to share the Gospel and his love of storytelling through his books—leaving behind words that will continue to speak long after his passing.
He was a hardworking man who loved his family the best way he knew how. He found joy in the outdoors—planting, tackling home improvement projects, raising ducks, and staying busy with whatever task lay before him.
Above all, James AKA (Jim, Daddy, and PopPop) will be remembered as a faithful follower of Christ, a loving husband, father and grandfather, a devoted friend, and a friendly neighbor. May his name be a blessing, always. He is deeply loved and dearly missed by his family and friends.
