

James Ray “Pete” Porter passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at his home in Little River.
Born August 17, 1944 in Harnett County, NC to James and Alice Porter, he was a graduate of Sanford Central High School in Sanford NC. James Ray served his country during the Vietnam Era in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic and received an honorable discharge. Following the guidance of his father, James, he was a carpenter who took great pride in his beautiful work. Pete, as he was known later in life was a skilled golfer, a diehard NASCAR fan, and an accomplished baseball player.
Pete married the love of his life Connie Cash on November 27, 1981 in Dillion, SC. Theirs was a match made in heaven and remained devoted to each other for life.
Pete was predeceased by his mother and father James and Alice Porter, and one brother Ronald Porter. He is survived by his wife Connie; two sons Phillip Anderson of Little River, SC and Patrick Anderson (Angela) of Gales Ferry CT; grandchildren Zachary, Jillian and Luke Anderson of Gales Ferry, CT. Pete is also survived by his two godsons, Jake Bennett of Houston TX, and Wesley Osborne of Columbia, SC; brothers, Richard Porter of Sanford, NC, Jerry Porter of Sneads Ferry, NC, and Vernon Porter of Wilmington, NC; sister, Peggy Travis of Sanford, NC and a twin sister, Fay Winterbottom of Burlington, VT.
Visitation for Pete will be Monday, February 19, 2018 from 12 noon to 1 pm, with a Memorial Service immediately following at 1 pm in Lee Funeral Home chapel. A reception will follow at the Princeton Place Clubhouse.
The family will gather March 10 in Sanford, NC for a Porter Family reunion to include a private scattering of the ashes on family land.
