A true American patriot, Eddie had dreams of joining and having a life-long career with the United States Air Force. Asthma caused an early medical discharge while in basic training but his pride in his country was never wavering. He was a former member of Northwood Temple Church ,Fayetteville, NC and currently a member of Advancing The Kingdom, Conway, SC.
On February 7, 1981, Eddie married the love of his life, Rhonda Floyd. Rhonda has always been his everything, not only his wife, but truly his best friend. They enjoyed their time with family whether in the mountains or on the beach or at a lake boating. Eddie was a self-employed floor installer prior to his career with Bonitz Floor where he retired following numerous years of service. Following his retirement and Rhonda’s they felt led to move near the beach. On July 13, 2017, they make Longs, SC their home. Eddie enjoyed “picking” on his guitar and was a classic car enthusiast. Eddie also enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, watching them grow up. He never missed a opportunity to catch one of his granddaughters ball games.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Rhonda, are his children, James “Jimmy” Boyd Spence (wife, Linda), Jason Matthew Spence (wife, Stephanie), John Michael Spence (wife, Helena); grandchildren, Amanda, Zack, Lily, Jimi, Haley, Delilah; three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Josie and Augie. Eddie is also survived by his sister, Carol Bert, a niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Charles Edward Spence and an infant grandson, Jeremy James Spence.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home.
