Jerry Monroe Barnes, age 78, went to his Eternal Home on January 15, 2022 after fighting a brave battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He passed at his home in North Myrtle Beach, SC surrounded by his loving family and close friends.
Jerry was born on April 15, 1943 in Mecklenburg County, NC to the late Oscar G. Barnes, Jr. and Mary Dixie Morris Barnes. Prior to retirement, he was a VP in Human Resources with BB&T for 40 years. Jerry attended Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church which he had planned to join before his illness. He was a lifetime member of the Lumberton Jaycees and an Area Director for the NC Jaycees. Jerry enjoyed golfing and was an avid fisherman. Two of his greatest joys were fishing with his son and surf fishing at the Outer Banks with friends. He loved all sports but especially enjoyed college basketball and football. Jerry was a huge UNC Tarheel Fan.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Adams Barnes; son, Chad Barnes (Maribeth) of Pawleys Island, SC; daughter, Kelcey B. Ierardi (Calvin Preston) of Garner, NC; grandchildren, Tyler Barnes (Jordan), Carson Zito, Allison Barnes, Colby Barnes, all of Pawleys Island, SC, Alec Preston, Rylee Preston of Garner, NC; great grandchild, Bodhi Barnes of Pawleys Island, SC; brother, Oscar G. (Rusty) Barnes III (Pam) of Sims, NC; brother-in-law, Barry Adams (Betty Jean) of Gold Sand, NC; nieces, Rebecca Kittrell (George) of Oxford, NC, Mary Beth Mullett (Charley) of Wilson, NC; nephew, Andrew Barnes (Magen) of Rock Hill, SC; several cousins, great nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on March 5, 2022 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The Barnes family will receive friends immediately following the service.
