Jerry Brown Willard, 87, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, entered his heavenly home surrounded by family and the love of his Savior. Born in Asheboro, North Carolina, in 1938, Jerry was the son of the late Aubrey Columbus Willard and Ethel Irene Willard.
Jerry graduated from Jamestown High School in 1956 and proudly joined the United States Navy that same year. He served faithfully aboard an aircraft carrier until 1962. After his service, Jerry earned his associate degree from Guilford Technical Community College and began a career dedicated to serving others—first as a police officer in High Point, NC, and later as a salesman for several chemical companies throughout the East Coast. After retiring, he continued to work part-time with Enterprise, where his easy smile and kind spirit brightened everyone’s day.
It was during this later season of his life that Jerry joyfully shared his testimony with others. Whether through a kind word, a story from his past, or a conversation at work, he spoke openly about his faith in Jesus and the difference God had made in his life. He wanted everyone to know the peace and hope that only comes from a personal relationship with Christ.
Jerry was a man of deep faith and integrity. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was devoted to reading his Bible daily. He was an active member of Little River United Methodist Church, where he found great joy in worship and fellowship. Jerry’s gentle nature, giving heart, and steadfast patience reflected the love of Christ to all who knew him.
An avid golfer, Jerry could often be found on the course at Colonial Country Club in Thomasville or at Tidewater Plantation in North Myrtle Beach, enjoying the game he loved and the friendships it brought. Yet, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family—whether during visits, holidays, or simple everyday moments. His laughter, jokes, and generous spirit filled every gathering with warmth and joy.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Linda T. Willard, with whom he would have celebrated 69 years of marriage on December 21st—a lifetime of love, faith, and devotion that was an inspiration to all who knew them. He is also survived by his children Timothy Keith Willard and Lesa Willard Edwards (Timmy Edwards); his grandchildren, Tanner Edwards (Jessica), Kelley Hood (Micah), and Faith Edwards (Damon Englishman); and his great-grandchildren, Every Edwards, Emerson Edwards, Murphy Hood, Maddox Hood, and Marley Hood. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Aubrey Willard. He also leaves behind his cherished kitty, Pearl, who brought him much comfort and companionship.
Jerry lived his life with gratitude, humor, and unwavering faith. Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of Jesus—free from pain and rejoicing in his eternal home.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
A private family service will be held at a later date.
