John Samuel Gaumer, 91, of Little River, SC (formerly of Fort Ashby, WV, passed away at Seacoast Medical Center, Little River, SC on October 20, 2018.
Born on June 3, 1927 in Wellersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Beatrice Gaumer Turner and Ward Turner of Manns Choice, PA. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Leona Natalie (Marker) Gaumer.
He graduated from Allegany High School, Cumberland, MD. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and later with the Navy Reserve in the Seebees. After which he worked with many area construction companies including Dale and William Welch Construction and also Rusco Home Improvements. He then worked at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. Cumberland, MD until retirement in 1988.
In December 1972 he married MaryLee Wilfong and together they moved to Little River, SC for their retirement years. He was an active member and church builder of Living Water Baptist Church, Longs, SC.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, MaryLee (Wilfong) Gaumer, his daughter, Rhonda Rae (Gaumer) Humbertson and husband David, Fort Ashby, WV, two grandchildren, Kurt Andrew Humbertson, wife Anna, Hurricane WV and Gretchen Lynn (Humbertson) Swartwood of Mountain Top, PA; and five great grandchildren; Emma, Ella, and Ethan Humbertson, and Kallen and Lana Swartwood; a niece and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 23 at Living Water Baptist Church, Longs SC.
