John Koch of North Myrtle Beach, SC, beloved brother and uncle, left us to begin his new journey June 19th, 2021. Born October 14, 1943 in Yonkers, NY, he was the son of John P. Koch and Cecilia (Deitzel) Koch.
John served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965 and upon discharge attended Mercy
College. Shortly thereafter, he found fulfillment as a firefighter for the City of Mt. Vernon NY. During the course of his 30-year career, he rose to the rank of lieutenant and in his latter years worked as the city’s fire inspector.
John took great pleasure in good books, creating his art, the company of friends and serene moments near the ocean. Although he may not have had a family of his own, he was very much a family man, providing love and guidance for his sisters and nieces.
He is survived by his sisters, Judith Richards and Janice (MIke) Kerman, his nieces, Jeanine Chella, Tracey-Ann (Eugene) Chiulli, Colleen (Scott) Vogel, Christa (Mike) Burke, Cathleen (Bud) Traver and several grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to MSA Hospice and ArchAngel home care for their tender care and especially Roberta Newberry, friend of 60 years, for easing his final days.
Services will be conducted by Lee Funeral Home, Little River, SC. Burial with military honors will follow in private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date.
The family requests memeorials be made to Mt.Vernon UFFA Local 107, P.O. Box 2085, Mt.Vernon, N.Y. 10550.
