John McCuen

John Joseph McCuen Jr., age 77, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., went to our Lord on August 21, 2026.

He was born in Philadelphia on October 17, 1948, to John Joseph McCuen Sr. and Mary McCuen. John attended LaSalle College and built a successful career as an independent manufacturers’ sales representative.

John met the love of his life Carolann at the age of 18. In 1970 they married, forming an eternal bond. The couple spent their marriage modeling a strong and enduring love for God, family, and each other. John was known for his generosity, loyalty, and strong convictions.

In addition to his love for family, John had a deep compassion for others, especially those experiencing mental or physical disabilities. He was kind and selfless, committed to a life of charitable leadership and true service.

John was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 41 years, rising to the Fourth Degree and serving as Past Grand Knight, Maryland State Director of the Mary Gold Program, and in many other chairmanships and positions of responsibility.

Among his most noteworthy contributions was the creation of the Mary Gold Program, which honored Our Blessed Mother and all mothers for the gift of life. The program was held each year on Mother’s Day at churches throughout the state.

John’s charitable work continued through his service as a member of the board of directors for Courage Unlimited Corporation and its Courage Lion Program. The program assisted more than 100,000 children in crisis as they found the inner strength and courage to continue their journey of healing.

John’s commitment to charitable service continued as a founding member of Champions for the Challenged, where he served on the Board of Directors. This organization provided a variety of services and events for individuals navigating developmental disabilities.

There is no doubt that John’s unshakable faith, uncommon love, and lifetime of charitable service bring a smile to the face of God, who will greet him with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

John is survived by his wife, Carolann; his children, Kevin (Megan) and Katie (James); his grandchildren, Joshua, Noah, Eliana, and Caroline; and his nephews John and Tim. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Mary, and his brother, Timothy.

A funeral will be held on August 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
