He is survived by his sister, Tina Mims and her husband David. He was preceded in death by his parents, along with his wife, Lynn Struebig Rice.
John was a unique person. Anyone who knew him for any length of time will attest to that! In his early years, he worked as a machinic for “Pappy” Dunbar and that is where he developed his lifelong interest in cars. Later, he became an independent real estate appraiser. He and his wife, Lynn traveled extensively, and his descriptions of their adventures were entertaining, and often hilarious.
Another of John's passions was fishing. He and his friends loved to fish, get oysters, head to the river to “relax” afterwards and enjoy cooking the days catch. Of course, John did the cooking, most of the time also making his famous coleslaw. He loved to cook and his chicken bog will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to sample it!
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
