

Joseph Theodore “Ted” Soter, Jr., 77, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Born on September 6, 1947, in Newport News, VA, Ted was the son of the late Joseph Theodore and Juanita Creasy Soter.
While attending Hampton High School, Ted met and fell in love with Anne Ward. The high school divided moving Ted to Kecoughtan High School but the two remained high school sweethearts. He graduated in 1965 and furthered his education at the Apprentice School of Newport News, VA before beginning his 39-year career with Newport News Shipyard.
Ted and Anne married on September 15, 1967, and the two were blessed with a daughter Kim. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, an attentive Pop Pop and a true family man who always loved being near the water. He and Anne enjoyed traveling and made many great friendships. Following retirement, they moved south to North Myrtle Beach and Florida before settling in North Myrtle Beach, where he played golf and they spent many evenings ‘Shaggin’ and hanging out in Ocean Drive. Ted kept a beautiful lawn as he was a perfectionist when it came to everything. He was a fun-loving great man that everyone who knew him loved.
In addition to his wife, Anne, Ted is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Tripp Clark as well as his grandson Mason Lanier Clark. He is also survived by his sister, Patsy Soter Taylor.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory, 11840 Highway 90, Little River, SC 29566. Visitation will follow the service at the funeral home.
