Judith A. Mattson

Born July 8th, 1940, Judith A. Mattson was born in Ury, West Virginia, raised her beloved family and perfected her career in Southern New Jersey until retiring with her husband, Bob Mattson. Judy and Bob retired to Little River, South Carolina in 2002. Her life’s journey was filled with compassion, humor and love.

Judith A. Mattson, aka, Mom, Mumzie, Grammy and/or Lady Judy is survived by her loving and supportive daughter; Dawn N. Pontz (Hansen) and husband Michael C. Pontz; Daughter in Law Tricia Tully;

Step Son Peter Mattson with wife Dr. Rachel Altman; Step Son Alex Mattson with wife Kristi; Step Daughter Lydia Mattson and husband Jon; Step Daughter Michele Shannon (Mattson) and husband Bill; grandchildren Dr. Meghan Marie Pontz, Cody, Zachary and Zoe Mattson, River and Arthur Mattson, Roman Mattson-Pacetti, Ryan and wife Jamie Shannon and Adam Shannon.

She was predeceased by her former husband Robert G. Mattson; son C. Reed Hansen Jr. and first husband Carl R. Hansen Sr.

Simply stated, people were her passion. Once you meet her, you were family. She was an active member of Red Hatters of Myrtle Beach, the Black Hatters of Little River and the Jersey Girl group. She donated her love to Mercy Care Hospice and was often found ‘clowning around’ with her BFF Barbie Harter, among so many others. And if you wanted time with her on Monday’s, you better be able to play Mahjong; as everyone knew Monday was Mahjong day.

A memorial service will be held at Little River Methodist Church located at 1629 Hwy 17, Little River, SC 29566 on Saturday July 15th at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception where family and friends are encouraged to share their life experiences with each other as we celebrate the life of this incredible women.

The interment service will be at Eglington Cemetery Kings Highway Clarksboro NJ, the date and time to be announced in the future.

In lieu of flowers, she has requested donations to the North Strand Housing Shelter in Longs SC. The family respectfully requests donations of Oreo’s an/or Diet Pepsi.
