Kelly Troxler Mathews, 46, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, following a fiercely fought battle with cancer. Born on August 7, 1979, in Burlington, NC, Kelly was the daughter of Cynthia “Cindy” McAdams Overman and the late William “Steve” Troxler.
As a child, she enjoyed dance-- tap, ballet, and competitive clogging. She was a majorette in high school and had a great circle of friends. She enjoyed being at home where her hospitality shined as it was continually filled with the laughter and love of friends and neighbors.
A 1997 graduate of Southern Alamance High School, Kelly received her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. It was there in 1999 she met the love of her life, Scott Mathews, and the two were married in Greensboro on July 12, 2003. In 2004 she and Scott happily made North Myrtle Beach their home. Kelly excelled in banking and with The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and The Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce and in 2010 she received the North Carolina Events Director of the Year award. One of her large tasks was planning The NC Oyster Festival. She had a tremendous gift for creativity, decorating, and event planning.
Her most treasured job came in 2012 when her daughter, Amelia, was born. Kelly felt blessed to have the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom and then, later, as homeschool teacher. Her devotion was also evident in her pride in Amelia’s competitive dance, where she worked closely with her dance family, the instructors, parents, and dancers at North Myrtle Beach Performing Arts.
Self-described, “Mom, Wife, Friend, Jesus Lover, Cancer Fighter, Homeschool Mama, and Event Planner at Heart,” Kelly will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She loved hard and proudly wore her heart on her sleeve. She also loved to travel, enjoying many trips to New York City, Las Vegas, and Caribbean beaches, with clear, blue water.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 23 years, Scott; her daughter, her world, Amelia; her mother, Cindy (“Mimo”), with whom she shared a deeply special bond; her stepfather, Cliff Overman (she affectionately named “Clad”); her brother, who she was so proud of, Wesley Troxler; Scott’s Parents, Pat & George Redmond; and her many close friends and family. She was preceded in death by her father, Steve Troxler; Scott’s father, Jimmy Mathews; grandparents Bill & Dolly Troxler, and Charles & Mildred McAdams.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at The Greg Rowles Legacy Theatre at 701 Main St, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.
