Kinter K. Koontz aka Pete, age 79 passed away peacefully at Loris Nursing Home in Loris, SC on November 20, 2025. Kinter was born June 1, 1946, in Johnstown, PA, and was the son of the late Kinter and Doris M. (Holmes) Koontz of Central City and Johnstown, PA. He is also the brother of Stewart E. Koontz and his wife Sally and sisters, the late Darlene M. Moyer (Koontz) and Karen L. Spoon (Koontz), both of Levittown, PA. Kinter was raised in Fairless Hills and graduated from Pennsbury High School, Yardley, PA, class of 1964. He was a graduate of Bucks County Community College, Newtown, PA, with an AA Business Administration in 1970, and a graduate of Penn State University, State College, PA, Class of 1972 with a BS in Business Logistics. He was an Eagle Scout and served on the staff at the Camp Ockanickon Scout Camp, Bucks County, PA during the summers 1962 through 1964. Kinter was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army as a four-year enlistee after high school, 1964-1968, in the U.S. Army Security Agency (ASA) as a Signals Intelligence Analyst with 18-month tour of duty at Torii Station on Okinawa and at a Phu Bai/Hue Vietnam ASA Field Station. Kinter was a life member of the VFW and American Legion.
He was employed as a manager beginning in 1974 at Paper Manufacturer Co., Philadelphia, PA, and Indianapolis, IN, and with Potlatch Corporation and Pope and Talbot, Ransom, PA in paper converting operations through 1987 rising to Superintendent Converting Operations. Kinter made a career change in 1987 to work for the U.S. Department of Defense Army Material Command (AMC) Logistics Support Activity as a Logistics Management Specialist in an AMC activity located on Tobyhanna Army Depot, Tobyhanna, PA. Kinter made continuous logistics assessment and assistance visits to Army activities throughout the U.S., Europe, Korea and Southeast and Southwest Asia. He enjoyed the 5 visits with associated free vacation days in Alaska during his 20 years with the Government. He readily acknowledged that working for the Federal Government was a lot easier and more interesting than working in private industry. Kinter retired in June 2008 from the Government and really enjoyed doing little to nothing after retirement. As a life-long bachelor Pete disliked cleaning house, doing the dishes, or mowing his lawn. He did some traveling, worked on family genealogy, wood craft projects, hunting and fishing and watching nature from his back yard on the Susquehanna River in Falls, PA.
In 2015, Pete relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC to be near his brother where he enjoyed all that beach life presented. He and his brother bought a boat and enjoyed many hours of fishing with friends on the Intracoastal Waterway around Little River, SC. Oh, if wondering what Pete did between 1972 and 1974; as Pete said, I goofed off, doing a little of this and a little of that.
He will be missed by his brother, Stewart Eugene Koontz and his wife Sally of Little River, SC also his brother-in-law Winfield Moyer of Cape May, NJ and three nieces and their families of Levittown, PA.
A military funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at 2:00 pm Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd
Newtown, PA 18940, where internment will take place.
In lieu of flowers, a short prayer or memorial contribution to the charity of your choice in Kinter’s memory would be appreciated
