On Friday, December 12, 2025, Larry Joe McDaniel, a Grand Strand resident of more than five decades, passed quietly at his North Myrtle Beach home, his wife of 40 years, Bonnie at his side. Larry arrived at the beach in 1972, a newly minted Mississippi State, Bachelor of Science Degree in hand. Many careers would follow.
A year of teaching and coaching at Myrtle Beach High School preceded managing Myrtle Beach's iconic "Duffy's Tavern" and "The Bowery" during the "Alabama" tenure as the house band. "SixPack" McDaniel often graced the stage with song.
A career with Ripley Entertainment followed. Larry managed museums in both Myrtle Beach and San Francisco, but it turned out that too much sand had remained in his shoes, and Larry returned to the Beach in 1986 in pursuit of a life-long dream, professional golf.
The last of his many hats, Larry was an Assistant Pro or Head Pro at several local courses. He earned his "Class A" Card (1991) and retired a member of professional golf's Quarter Century Club.
A knee injury sustained playing first-year football at Mississippi State ended Larry's promising athletic career. Regardless, for several years, "Wahoo" McDaniel anchored third base for the "Chairman's Corner" Myrtle Beach city-league softball team. Intramural football, volleyball, and basketball in their respective seasons often found Larry on a starting squad. As a certified PADI Open Water diver, whenever possible, larry explored Atlantic and Caribbean waters. He excelled in tennis and, of course, golf.
larry was th eson of the late Realus E. and Grace Ann (nee' Protho) McDaniel of Caledonia, Mississippi. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (nee' Moldenhauer) of Randolph, Wisconsin. A sister, Cynthia McDaniel Kisner (Andrew J. Kisner V). Nephews, Andrew J. Kisner, VI and Cameron P. McDaniel Kinser. Several relatives that reside in Mississippi.
