Larry Wayne Moore passed away peacefully at his home in North Myrtle Beach, SC November 10, 2025. Born May 6, 1948 in High Point, NC, he was the son of the late Carl and Allie Moore. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Pack and his beloved kitty, Millie.
Larry started his core career with Carolina Power and Light Company, later named Progress Energy and then Duke Energy. He was affectionately called “The Light Man” where he spent 21 years working tirelessly in Andrews, SC before being transferred back to Asheboro, NC and retiring after 31 years of service.
While living in Andrews, Larry served as Rotary President, served on the Revitalization Committee, was a volunteer fireman and volunteer EMT. He served proudly in the United States Army and spent a tour of duty in Vietnam. In October 2025, he received a Quilt of Valor honoring his service.
Larry was the backbone of his family and they adored him dearly. He had many close friends and enjoyed fishing, shrimping, hunting, shagging, and most of all helping others. He was an avid craftsman, and his work was a testament to his attention to detail and skill. He had an infectious smile and sense of humor, and to know him was to love him. He was an active member of Wampee Baptist Church and he loved his church family.
Leaving behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 16 years, Kathy Moore, son Thomas Moore, daughter Amy Moore, stepson Neil Mitchell, stepdaughter Brooke Mitchell Futrell (Davy), step-granddaughter Summer Futrell (Eli), step-grandson Josh Futrell, twin sister, Brenda Moore, sister Debra Milliner (Joe) and brother Brent Moore (Lavonne), along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
