Missing Louis always but remembering him today on the anniversary of his leaving…. many days I have wished I could pull up his drive, climb the stairs, knock on the door and hear him shout “come on in!” so we could chat and spend time together, maybe go for a ride like he liked to do. I have such good memories of him that never fade but grow sweeter with time  ❤️

It doesn’t matter who my father was, it matters more  who I remember he was. The impressions of one’s youth remain the most vivid in manhood and Louis will always be the man I remember being like a father to me.  He taught me so much and gave me the love and attention I desperately needed at 14 and throughout manhood.  The days of him teaching me to hunt at “Camp Tick”, boat on the Waccamaw, get my first car and teaching me to drive a big Harley, watching Braves baseball games together on weekends and the laughter!  I remember how he took me and my friends out after high school graduation and flew to San Antonio, Texas for both my Air Force basic training and Security Forces Tech graduations and how he was there for me when I returned home affected by my experience in the war in Iraq.  All of these memories will live in my heart forever…he was the man I admired in youth and looked up to as an adult.  He was ten feet tall and bullet proof and will always be, to me. I loved him and will miss him more than words can express. I know his family, friends and loved ones are grieving too, Louis is a loss you don’t get over.  I wish I could be there tomorrow for his service.  I am in Columbia, South America and can not get there in time. I will have everyone in my prayers and keep Louis close to my heart until I can sit and visit with him, graveside. I can’t wait to talk to him about everything...like always.  He was the best listener..  Love, Hampton  

My deepest sympathy to the family.  May the angels be near to give you and the many friends who loved Louis, peace and comfort. They say, if the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them. I will always remember the special times Louis and I spent together. I will miss him every day in so many ways…his big heart, his sly grin, his dry sense of humor and his “no holds barred” comments which were the cause of either fits of laughter or chagrin - all rolled into a dear friend that was in all ways, his own man. I loved him and have many memories that will keep him close in my heart.  His love and friendship was a certainty for which I am so grateful.  Louis was like a father to my son who loved him to pieces and yes, tested his patience, like most sons will, but Hampton always knew Louis was there for him…always. Not many people give you that sense of certainty… Louis did.  I will remember my dear friend with this quote by Helen Keller, “What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose.  And, all that we love deeply becomes part of us.”   I think,  our very best part.
