Marie Ziccarello (nee Nasos) was born in Rockaway Beach, NY, on May 6, 1935 to Nicholas and Calliope ‘Lee’ Nasos, and went to heaven on May 24th, 2026. She was 91 years old. She was a longtime resident of Whippany, NJ, and more recently, a resident of Little River, SC. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Whippany, for many years. Her deep faith in God and belief in the kingdom of heaven brought her great comfort and everlasting peace. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 71 years, Thomas J. Ziccarello, her dear brother, William Nasos (Mary), and her 4 devoted children Tina Z. Menke, Jessica Z. Hogan (Marlo), Thomas W. Ziccarello (Roe), and Andrea Ziccarello (Mark). She was the proud and loving “Yaya” to 11 grandchildren, Chloe (Lucas), Rachel (Luke), Gian in heaven, Joseph (Anne), Andrew (Caitlyn), Alex, Christina in heaven, Abigail, Zachary (Susan), Kayleigh and Eleni and 2 great grandsons, Xavier and Walter, all who were the light of her life. She was an adored aunt to many nieces and nephews, and to some, she was a loving mother figure.
Marie was a devoted mother and wife, a homemaker extraordinaire and a talented cook; always ready to feed an army and welcome whoever walked into her lovely home. Many family members and friends experienced Marie’s welcoming hospitality, whether it was for a delicious Greek or Italian meal, good conversation, advice, support or a warm and inviting place to take respite.
There were no limits to Marie’s capabilities. She was a talented entrepreneur and a collector and purveyor of antiques and vintage linens, in Chester, NJ. For a time, she was part owner of G&Z Liquors, in Dover, NJ, building a positive relationship with the community by offering wine tastings and creating beautiful tailored baskets for all occasions. Married to a police officer, Marie saw the need for, and was instrumental in developing, a support group for fellow policemen’s wives, in Hanover Twp, NJ. She was a past member of the local Historical Society. Marie was a devout Yankee fan, who looked forward to watching every game and was incredibly knowledgeable in the game of baseball.
Although Marie will be missed here on earth, her family members know she is resting peacefully, will always be in their hearts, and will be watching over them from her home in heaven. A memorial service and celebration of Marie’s life will take place on July 11 at 10:30 a.m., at The Church of the Redeemer, 36 South Street, Morristown NJ.
Marie bravely battled stage 4 breast cancer for 13 years. No matter what the challenge, she never gave up. Her courage inspired many others to keep fighting. In lieu of flowers, a contribution, in her memory, could be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital
