Martin Bernat

Martin E. Bernat (Marty), 77, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Longs, S.C. Born February 24, 1948, in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of Eleanor Bernat (Krawczyk) and Martin J. Bernat. He was predeceased in death by his infant brother Michael Bernat.

Martin graduated from Diman Regional Vocational High School in Fall River in 1966, where he would later teach Machine Shop until his retirement in 2011. Martin had a passion for teaching and his students, he enjoyed sharing his experiences. Martin was also the owner of Pieroni Machine Shop in Fall River where he spent countless evenings and weekends growing his business that brought him so much pride. Martin's work ethic was remarkable, working as a teacher and operating his business. From 1998 to 2023, Martin worked at the Acoaxet Club in Westport, Massachusetts where he was well known to many of the members. This was not just a job for him, he loved his time at the club and made many lasting friendships. Martin was an avid sportsman, playing baseball and hockey in his early years, but his true passion was golf. He loved being on the golf course with his friends and family.

Martin leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted partner Diane Newhouse Valas, his children Kerri Bernat (Bernard Gleeson), Craig M. Bernat (Holly Clay), and Kristin Silva (Manuel). His beloved grandchildren Nicole, Kendra and Connor Luibrand, Myles and Channing Bernat, Jared and Jocelyn Silva and a host of relatives and dear friends. His love for his children and grandchildren was evident in every conversation, card, text, family gathering and special occasion. He will be deeply missed.

Celebrations of Life are being planned in Longs, S.C. and Westport, Massachusetts. Dates to be announced.
