Mary Alice Schelz

Mary Alice Schelz, 82, died September 7, 2020 very peacefully at McLeod Seacoast Medical Center.

Born on June 12, 1938 in Bronxville, NY, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Gertrude Johannsen Schelz.

Ms. Schelz was an administrative assistant in Manhattan for many years, a real estate agent in New Jersey and also was a care giver to several people. She enjoyed boating, beaches, watching the boats go up and down the Intracoastal waterway and was an avid book reader. Mostly, she enjoyed family gatherings and all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a strong woman and raised all seven of her children on her own. She was always the mother at all the school functions who baked for the classes. She was always there for advice and support for all of her family. Everyone who wasn’t family called her mom or grandma because she made them feel like family. She will be dearly missed by all.

Ms. Schelz is survived by her children, Susan Palka, Eric McCleary, John McCleary, David McCleary, George McCleary, Robert McCleary and Carole Caiola; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and her cousin Kenny Johannsen and his wife Charlene.

A celebration of her life will be private with the family at a future date.
