Michael Benner

Michael “Mike” Benner, age 62, passed away on August 10, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, leaving behind a legacy of service, deep friendships, and a life lived with passion. Born on July 26, 1964, Mike was the fifth of six children born to Elizabeth J. and Charles F. Benner. Growing up alongside five siblings, Mike experienced the unique adventure of moving every three to four years. These frequent moves allowed him to meet countless lifetime friends across the country, many of whom he remained in close contact with throughout his entire life.

Like his two brothers, Mike joined the U.S. Army right out of high school, serving proudly with the 101st Airborne Division as a Vulcan Repairman and Fire Support Specialist, he achieved the rank of Sergeant and served overseas during the Gulf War. Mike was highly decorated, earning numerous awards and achievements during his service. His patriotism extended long after his military career as a proud, lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), where he loved connecting and sharing stories with fellow veterans.

Mike loved life on the water boating, riding his Harley Davidson, driving classic cars, singing karaoke, and socializing with his vast circle of friends. He was also a devoted dog dad to his pups, Sophie Lynn and Leo. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Jeanein Benner, and sisters Cheryl Robin Benner and Shirley Jean Benner. He is survived by his father, Charles Frank Benner, his brother, Kevin Dwayne Benner and wife Rita; his brother, Charles F. (Butch) Benner Jr and his wife, Lynda; his sister, Wendy Gail Benner-Schueman and her husband Steve; his uncles and aunts, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A celebration of Michael’s life will take place at a later date and location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mike’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization very close to his heart.
