Mike grew up in Arlington, VA. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. His career as a pilot began as a flight instructor before joining Henderson, Piedmont and US Airways, which eventually merged with American Airlines, where he retired in July 2018.
On June 22, 2019, he married Linda, the love of his life. They wed in New York before making their home in South Carolina in 2021. He loved to cook and was a collector of recipes. He found great pleasure in sharing his culinary works with his family and friends. Mike and Linda made friends immediately upon moving and those friendships will be treasured by all. Mike enjoyed his summer home in Lubec, ME and had wonderful memories of his children there. He also enjoyed taking his pontoon boat out on the water, whether it be on the lake in Maine or, most recently, on the Intracoastal Waterway.
Mike is survived by his father, William “Bill” Murray; his wife, Linda Murray; son, Kyle Murray (wife, Melinda); daughter, Shannon Dennison (husband, Joey); stepson Jason Renneberg; and grandchildren: Emma, Austin, Myles and Riley. Mike is also survived by his brother, William “Bill” Murray (wife, Hoa). He was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Murray.
Mike had a love of dogs, especially his standard poodle, Bailey. He is also survived by Saylor, their pyredoodle and Molly, their cat.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family invites you to visit them from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at the Lee Funeral Home and Crematory in Little River, SC. A prayer service will begin at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
