Michael was born on April 27, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan, and was the son of the late Marvin and June (Ball) Shelton. He was the loving husband of Lynn Rochelle (Stine) Shelton. They were married on November 9, 2007.
After graduating from Gross Pointe North High School, Michael served in the U.S. Navy from October 18, 1974 to May 14, 1982.
Michael had worked for Tueminal Data Corp, Petersen Publishing Corporation, Q2 Publishing Corporation, Swift Trucking and Crete Trucking. He was an operations manager for Myrtle Beach Dolphin Cruises.
Survivors include his three sons, Michael Robert Shelton, Matthew (Brandon Faber) Shelton, Macpherson Shelton; a daughter, Jamie (Josh) Johnson; son Eric (Suzy) Despotovic; two granddaughters, Taj and Ahnika Despotovic; his sister-in-laws Susan Davis Shelton and Lana Frank-Krause; brother-inlaws Larry Stine, Lyle (Jule) Stine, and Lance (Laura) Stine; and many cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by a son Bryan Despotovic and his brothers, Dale and Douglas, as well as many fur babies.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory, 11840 Hwy 90, Little River SC 29566. The memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM.
Funeral honors will be provided by the US Navy prior to the start of the memorial service.
