

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Edward Whalen Jr. and Lillie Whalen; her brothers, Russell Chappell and Philip Whalen; and her beloved husband, John Louis Hooson Jr., with whom she shared many years of life and love.
She is survived by her devoted children: Elizabeth Holzkamper and her husband Shaun; Eddie Lemarr and his wife Garan; Rebecca Wilson and her husband Tanner; and her stepson, John Hooson III. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Ashleigh and Alyssa Holzkamper; Josiah and Cora Mae Lemarr; Nataliya Hooson; Niklaus White, Wade White, and Violet Wilson; and Emily and Jennifer Hooson.
Affectionately known as “Momma Myrt” by many, family was the center of her world. She took immense pride in her children and grandchildren and found her greatest joy in the time spent with them.
Myrt was a dedicated and hardworking woman, a title she carried with pride. Throughout her life, she held many roles, but she truly found her calling in orthopedics. She cared deeply for her patients and consistently went above and beyond, leaving a lasting impression on those she served.
She was a fierce and loyal friend who never missed an opportunity to offer wisdom, guidance, or a listening ear. She will be remembered for her strength, her compassion, and the unwavering love she gave to those around her.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 21, 2026, at Lee Funeral Home in Little River, South Carolina.
