Nancy Jean Flanagan, 91, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. Born on New Years Day 1934, Nancy was the youngest of three children born to the late Nicholas and Joan Granata Carapello. She was the devoted wife of the late Robert E. “Bob” Flanagan.
Having grown up in New York, Nancy met her late husband in 1951. The two were married two years later and shared 64 years together until his passing in 2017. They lived in Spring Valley New York where Nancy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In 1986, she and Bob bought a second home in North Myrtle Beach with plans to move further south to Florida upon his retirement. However, in 1993, Nancy decided it would be too hot in Florida, and they made North Myrtle Beach their home. After moving to North Myrtle Beach, Nancy and Bob became members of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Nancy’s greatest joy in life was being a wife and mother. She loved helping others and graciously gave her time taking care of others. She was an outstanding cook who would share her delectable meals with those she loved most. The blessings of grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her life even more full, and she treasured each moment she spent with them. Her humor and quick wit will live on through those she loved most.
Known to her family and close friends as the “Cat Woman”, Nancy had a love of her cats and adopted many from the humane society. In her memory, the family requests memorials be made to the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society.
Surviving are her daughters, Lynn Flanagan, Jean Gross; son, Robert Flanagan; grandchildren, Joseph Gross, Sean Flanagan, Charlie Ross; great-grandchildren, Phoenix Gross and Charlie Ross as well as a new arrival of a great-granddaughter, due soon. Nancy is preceded in death by her sister, Marie Kline and brother, Anthony Carapello.
